What experiences do you think are important for children to have?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 18, 2009:
Children should know that BOTH their parents love them. Unfortunately my father was an alcoholic and wanted a son instead. I am an only child, but my father never showed or said that he loved me. Because of that I always tried my best in sport and in school to please my father etc.
